As part of 16 Days of Activism against Gender-Based Violence, a collective of women from Penzance will be marching in the street in solidarity.

The walk will take place this evening Friday the 2th November at Wherrytown Skatepark and will provide a safe space for people to come together, along with some food and drink.

The walk will be open for all for women, men and children who want to attend.

Councillor Thalia Marrington for Mousehole, Newlyn and St Buryan Division says she first began campaigning for women when she noticed the lack of coverage after several women had died within the area due to violence against men

"Last year, I realised there was nothing was going on and there had been a couple of very high profile murders, Sarah Everard and Bobbi-Anne McLeod in Plymouth"

"I'd been particularly taken by people on the radio just saying we need to get better street lighting, it was something that stuck with me"

"I kept thinking, this isn't about better street lighting, this is about male violence and we need to shine a spotlight there"

"I wanted to do something somehow, so we organised a march"

Thalia Marrington says it's down to everyone to call out behavior for change.

"The overall aim is, it shouldn't be 16 days we spend on this it should be 365 days a year we are considering women"

"It's really just shining a bit of a light and saying it's down to us all, that's me and women, young and old to call out what's not right".
