Emergency services have been involved in a major rescue operation at Perranporth Beach.

RNLI lifeguards were called to people in difficulty in the water on Thursday afternoon.

The multi-agency incident also involved police, paramedics and Coastguard Rescue crews.

The HM Coastguard Rescue Helicopter from Newquay was pictured circling over the cliff-top, before touching down nearby.

Images shared on social media show the Cornwall Air Ambulance coming into land behind nearby properties.

Emergency services responded to the initial calls at around 5pm on Thursday 25th August.

Police have since confirmed that, tragically, a woman lost her life after being pulled from the sea unconscious.

The RNLI has also issued a statement, sending their "deepest condolences" to the casualty's family and friends.
