A main commuter route in and out of Truro has now reopened following a crash on the A39.

It happened between Arch Hill and Playing Place on Friday morning.

Police say it was first reported as a collision involving a car and a tree but it is understood that a streetlight was knocked down too.

The driver of the car was not injured.

Local officers say a telegraph pole was damaged and dislodged.

The stretch of road was closed for several hours but officers have confirmed that it has now reopened.

"A39 in both directions closed, queueing traffic due to accident, a car and a streetlight involved between A390 (Arch Hill, Truro) and Mill Lane (Calenick).

"The streetlight has been knocked down and is blocking the road causing police to stop traffic whilst it is fixed."
