Main road in Bodmin closed in both directions because of 'police incident'

Locals have reported seeing the police helicopter circling over the town and in the area of the Camel Trail

One of the main roads through Bodmin was closed because of what was being described as a police incident.

The A389 Priory Road was shut in both directions at around 5am on Tuesday (25th May).

Locals reported seeing the police helicopter circling over the town in the areas around Priory Park and also the Camel Trail.

Go Cornwall Bus tweeted to say that buses were being diverted, with delays on some routes.

It has now been confirmed that the road has reopened.

Go Cornwall Bus tweeted: "All services up and running this morning no major issues #TFC11A to Padstow is 10 minutes late due to the Priory Road closure in Bodmin".

They later posted: "0835: #TFC179 is running 20 minutes late currently, sorry for any inconvenience the delay may cause. Reminder there is a closure on Priory Road in Bodmin due to a police incident".

The most recent post read: "Currently we have a shuttle bus operating between Mount Folly, Bodmin General Station, the Beacon and Mount Folly in a loop whilst Priory Road remains closed".

Traffic and travel service, Inrix, said the incident was affecting traffic between Launceston Road and Turf Street.

It has now confirmed that the road has reopened in both directions.

"Police incident over on A389 Priory Road in both directions from Launceston Road to B3268 Turf Street (Church Square).

"Sensors suggest the road has re-opened, following an incident earlier this morning."
