700 people dressed in bright colours to create Tour of Britain legacy field art in Bodmin
It is to help leave a lasting legacy from when the famous cycling race came to Cornwall
A plea has gone out to gather 700 people dressed in bright colours to help create field art in Bodmin.
Ahead of the Tour of Britain coming to Cornwall, Bodmin locals Harry Maddox, Lee Hoskin and Rob Luke created a giant message saying '#LoveBodmin' in a field ready for the media in helicopters to see while filming.
Harry is also behind the incredible NHS and key worker mural in the town centre.
But due to the poor weather conditions on the day of the famous cycle race in the Duchy last weekend (5th September) the choppers were unable to fly.
Now, in a bid to create a Tour of Britain legacy in the town, 700 people are needed to stand on the giant lettering so aerial footage can be taken.
The field art event is taking place tomorrow (Sunday 12th September) at a field just off the Westheath roundabout in Bodmin at 2pm.
Mayoress for Bodmin Nikki Cooper told us: "I have been tasked with getting approximately 700 people dressed in bright clothing to this field on Sunday to stand on the lettering for Ariel footage to be taken.
"Within 24 hours all permissions, insurances, licenses, risk assessments etc have been obtained with local authorities informed of the event to create a legacy to the Tour Of Britain 2021 and put Bodmin firmly on the Tour map and beyond."
Posting on social media, creator Harry Maddow said: "Thank you for the likes, support and amazing comments on the projects over the last few months, I've read and appreciate every one.
"This next one is the Big one. We have all the relevant permissions in place and we're good to go.
"This is the one that we want you all to get involved in, we would love every one to have this picture and be able to say "I was there on that day, I was part of that"
"The idea is to fill the '#LOVEBODMIN' with people that love this town and take some amazing drone shots and footage. This is a huge sign and a big ask. I estimate that we need around 600 to 700 people at 1m apart, I have never seen this done before but we're optimistic it is doable.
"Just turn up around 2pm this Sunday 12 Sept at the field and wear bright coloured clothing, bring your flags from last weekend if you still have them. There isn't any parking so please walk to the site if you are able where marshals will show you where to go. Not everyone does Facebook so please tell your friends and neighbours, and please remember that Covid isn't over so respect every ones personal space and if you feel you need to wear a mask please do so. This is in a huge field and hopefully the risks are minimal but lets keep this safe.
"Please be mindful of the residents in this area, they have not asked us to invade their peaceful Sunday afternoon so if we could keep the disruption to a minimum, walk there if possible and no litter.
"This town can be so much more than the place that people drive through or bypass, last weekend was amazing, we need to build on that success and keep the momentum."
