The Health Secretary is being asked for 'any additional support' to ease the pressure on Cornwall's main hospitals.

Truro's MP has written to Sajid Javid as a matter of urgency, after Treliske declared an 'internal critical incident'.

The Royal Cornwall is operating at a level above OPEL 4, which was previously known as 'Black Alert'.

More than 100 people attended A&E on Wednesday night, with over 25 ambulances queuing outside.

NHS bosses say the demand on our health care services has reached its highest level of the pandemic.

Posting on Facebook, MP for Truro, Cherilyn Mackrory, promised to do whatever she can to help.

She wrote: "I am acutely aware of the current situation at Royal Cornwall Hospital.

"There is clearly a huge demand on the hospital at the moment, particularly the emergency department, and I am grateful for those working at the hospital in their efforts to see every patient as soon as they possibly can.

"I work closely with the management team at RCHT, and even more so in times like these.

"Whatever the hospital need to alleviate this pressure, I will do to try and help them.

"I have written to the Health Secretary raising this situation with him as a matter of urgency, asking for any additional support to help ease the pressure on Treliske.

"The health of those living in Cornwall is the number one priority for me and this Government, so we must do all that we can to support the hospital through difficult times like these".

Patients are being urged to avoid casualty unless it is critical and you can check where else to go for treatment on NHS Kernow's website.
