Seven tonnes of leftover food for police and security during the G7 summit has been donated to a foodbank in Cornwall.

Over 6,500 officers were deployed across the Duchy during the world leaders event in Carbis Bay and around 5,000 of those were on mutual aid, from every other police force across the country.

While they were here they were provided with hot and cold meals each day to keep them going through their 12-hour shifts.

The Camborne, Pool and Redruth centre was given boxes full of breakfast bags, containing the likes of baps, yoghurts, cereal bars, fruit and drinks.

The supplies have now been dished out to local schools in the area along with a homeless shelter.

It comes at a time when the branch is expecting a rise in demand over the summer.

They are currently dishing out around 10,000 meals a month across the area. February was the CPR foodbank's highest month, with over 14,000 meals being dished out.

"We're looking at probably August or September time, there will be a bigger rise.

"People who are struggling, they have been on 60% furlough, quite a few of them won't get a job when they go back, the jobs will be gone, and it's going to cause a big unemployment problem I believe.

"We are gearing up because people are running up debts, there's an amnesty on rent arrears that has been taken away now, from people that are renting properties, and we can see problems there coming our way."
