Public urged to "use or lose" Launceston Leisure Centre
The site reopened its doors one week ago

One week on from Launceston Leisure Centre reopening to the public, we're being warned to "use it or lose it" to protect its future.
The site was at risk of permanent closure when it closed its doors to the public at the end of January this year.
Thanks to a community interest group now, the site reopened their pool and gym facilities on Thursday 16 February.
Councillor Dave Gordon is part of the Coronation Park Trust and says it's vital for children there to have a place to swim. He told us:
"Children need to learn to swim. I was a child and I never learnt to swim. It just didn't happen and I always regret it really. Children need to learn as a vital life skill.
"It was a worry for all of last year really for all of last year really.
"It's vitally important to the town"
"Not just the town, the area, the surrounding parishes. It's there for everybody to use and they need to use it".
When speaking to us previously about trying to save the site, businessman Michael Davey, who created a community interest group, said:
"I could not just stand aside and watch the centre stand derelict and ultimately be knocked down. Launceston needs a focal point and central hub for not just health, fitness and well-being, but also to offer a venue for local sports and activity groups".
Cllr Adam Paynter continued: "Mr Davey and his team are committed to listening to local people and to react to their needs and ideas".
