Launceston celebrates arrival of Armed Forces Day flag
Military personnel, veterans and cadets have come together to mark the occasion
Launceston is celebrating the arrival of the Armed Forces Day flag today (Friday 2 June).
Veterans Affairs Minister Johnny Mercer MP will be part of a short ceremony, alongside the town’s mayor, serving military personnel, cadets, and veterans.
A military parade will leave the town hall at 10.30am to receive the flag, which has come from Land’s End.
Launceston is the sixth stop for the flag which is doing a relay of Cornwall, ahead of Armed Forces Day on 24 June.
Jonny Mercer MP sees the event as "a great opportunity for us to come together, to remember and recognise the sacrifices made by armed forces personnel and veterans to keep us all safe and secure."
Launceston Town Mayor Helen Bailey hopes that it will be "a nice time of reflection," for the town which is "very proud" of its military connections.
The flag will also be raised for Armed Forces Day, which will be celebrated up and down the country, with the main events hosted in Falmouth.
