A company that runs wildlife trips in Cornwall has recorded what it believes to be its largest ever pod of bottlenose dolphins.

AK Wildlife Cruises, based in Falmouth, estimates that over 200 were spotted during a single outing on Saturday.

The team said the playful creatures put on an "amazing show", including 20ft jumps into the air, backflips and somersaults.

They added that the dolphins even came over to bow-ride their vessel, Free Spirit.

Posting on their Facebook page, AK Wildlife Cruises said: "The most Bottlenose Dolphins AKWC has ever recorded!

"We had a once in a lifetime experience on Saturday with what we believe to be our largest pod of Bottlenose Dolphins ever recorded on one of our trips.

"Occasionally we record large offshore groups around once or twice a year if we are lucky, but this was quite spectacular.

"We estimated over 200 individuals including many calves covering a huge area of sea and in every direction we looked. And what a show they put on!

"We watched in amazement as they performed incredible acrobatics including 20ft jumps into the air, backflips and somersaults, and they also came over to bow-ride Free Spirit.

"Thank you to the wonderful company we had on board and got to share this with".
