"It's difficult but very rewarding" - Life as an NHS nurse in Cornwall
The NHS is celebrating its 75th anniversary this week
A mental health nurse in Cornwall has reflected on more than 40 years in the NHS - as they celebrate their 75th anniversary.
Rita McNary started her career as a mental health nurse in Bodmin 44 years ago when she was in her 20s, working at St Lawrences Hospital which closed in 2002.
44 years later - she stays dedicated to making a difference within the NHS.
She told us: "There's been an awful lot of positives, and trying to move forwards. Still trying to find the best ways of helping people.
"I've found that I had a lot to offer people and I could help people in life with their troubles and difficulties and I've done that ever since.
"I'd like to think I've had a large impact with people I've worked with."
We're hearing from healthcare workers who've been longstanding members of the NHS, as Wednesday 7th July marks the official anniversary since the start of the NHS.
"It's very rewarding"
Rita added: "It's very difficult, I wouldn't say it's the easiest of jobs to do, but it's very rewarding.
"When you do work with people with mental health issues, when you see their positives, see the improvements people make.
"Not everybody has help and support and sometimes we're the only people who are there for some people, who may not have family and friends. I think it's vital that they have someone to turn to to give them the help and support they need."
