Inquest date set following death of 13-year-old girl who fell from cliffs while on holiday

A date has been set for a full inquest into the death of a 13-year-old girl from Birmingham who died while on holiday in Devon.

The youngster, from the Moseley area of the city, died on April 16th 2021 after emergency services were called to a cliff near to the Devon Cliffs, Sandy Bay holiday site in Exmouth.

The coroner today (4th May) confirmed she had been on holiday with her family and was pronounced dead on arrival at Exeter's RD&E Hospital.

A further toxicology report is expected with a full inquest set for January 19, 2022.

At the time of the death, police confirmed events were not being treated as suspicious.

They said: "Police were called at around 6.10pm on Friday 16 April to a report of concern for a female.

"Officers attended alongside other emergency services and the body of a 13-year-old girl, who was on holiday with her family from out of the Force area, was discovered at the base of cliffs at Sandy Bay, Exmouth.

"Her next-of-kin have been informed.

"Her death is not being treated as suspicious. A file is being prepared for the coroner."
