Incident near St Ives amid reports of possible 'chemical spill'

Emergency services are on the scene of a chemical spill incident near St Ives.

Police say at least one person has suffered breathing difficulties in the Carbis Bay area.

Locals in the area have reported seeing dozens of fire engines and police cars on the scene.

Firefighters say an 'exclusion zone' is being set up.

People are being urged to avoid the area and keep windows and doors shut.

The fire service is also asking people to avoid the Carbis Bay beach area.

"We are in attendance at an incident involving chemicals in the Carninney Lane area of Carbis Bay.

"At this time, we have resources in attendance from St Ives, Penzance, Tolvaddon and St Just. We have 3 wholetime officers on scene. This is a multi-agency incident and our crews are working with other services on scene.

"An exclusion zone is being set up. Devon and Cornwall Police are urging people to stay away from the area and keep windows and doors closed at this time.

"These are all the details we have at this time."

"Police were informed at around 9:45am today (9th September) of reports of at least one person have breathing difficulties linked to a possible chemical spill in the Carbis Bay area of St Ives.

"Emergency services are in attendance including fire, ambulance plus representatives from the Environment Agency have been informed."
