Idles announced as latest act for next summer's Eden Sessions
The British band will rock the biomes in July 2021
Idles have been announced as the latest act to play at next summer's Eden Sessions.
The British band will rock the Cornish biomes on July 11th, 2021.
The news follows the release of their hugely successful third studio record, Ultra Mono, which went straight to number one on the UK Albums Chart at the beginning of October (2020).
Formed in Bristol in 2009, the band comprises vocalist Joe Talbot, Adam Devonshire on bass, guitarists Mark Bowen and Lee Kiernan, and Jon Beavis on drums.
“IDLES are the most passionate, politically driven and vitally relevant band in the UK right now. Their celebration of community and diversity echoes our own ethos and we are delighted to present them at Eden.”
Rita Broe, Managing Director of Eden Sessions Ltd
Their first album Brutalism, released in 2017, made a big impact and led to invites to support the likes of Foo Fighters on tour and to signing with the Brooklyn and London independent Partisan Records.
Second album, Joy As An Act Of Resistance, debuted at number five in the UK, breaking Rough Trade’s all-time record for most pre-orders and sales in a day. It was crowned 6 Music’s number one album of the year for 2018.
Idles won the coveted Ivor Novello award for Best Album, were nominated for the Mercury Prize, performed a raucous Jools Holland debut and saw three extensive tours sell out worldwide.
The band’s latest, Ultra Mono, is sonically constructed to capture the feeling of a hip-hop record, with the songs doubling down on the vitriolic sneer and blunt social commentary of their past work.
The album is a celebration of community, one that IDLES have been striving to build since their start, something bigger than themselves. As their audience grows, new fans continue to come from a sense of not belonging, together creating a diverse congregation of people who are making each other belong.
Idles will be joined on their Eden Session date by Belgian-Caribbean artist Charlotte Adigéry. Charlotte likes to draw inspiration from her Caribbean ancestors’ musical traditions and with her latest EP, Zandoli, she proves herself to be a consummate storyteller.
Also joining Idles are Spectres – a noise rock band from Bristol who over three albums and countless other releases have cemented their reputation as one of the UK’s most visceral and uncompromising acts.

Idles are the sixth Eden Session confirmed for the summer of 2021, joining the recently announced Bryan Adams concert and four rescheduled shows, after this year’s Sessions could not take place due to the impacts of the global pandemic.
