Eyewitnesses have reported seeing lightning strike a house in Newquay.

Firefighters have confirmed they were called to a house fire on St Thomas’ Road on Monday afternoon.

Andy Killman, who took the above photo, told Kernow Weather Team: “We’re hoping no-one was inside.

"Was the closest I’ve ever been to a strike. It was a little bit scary”.

Newquay Community Fire Station has said road closures are in force as they remain at the scene.

In a post on social media, they have urged people to avoid the area.

The Newquay team said: “Please avoid St Thomas’s Road as we deal with a house fire.

“Roads are closed in the area”.

Both Cornwall Fire & Rescue Service and Devon & Cornwall Police have been approached for a statement.
