Holidaymakers encouraged to visit St Ives in new video campaign
It is to help reassure people that the town centre is Covid-safe
A new video campaign has launched to promote St Ives and reassure visitors that the town is Covid-safe.
A string of new measures are now in place to make the town centre as safe as possible for people to visit the Cornish seaside destination.
Now St Ives Business Improvement District (BID) has produced a promotional video with the aim of encouraging holidaymakers, supporting town businesses and reassuring visitors hoping to visit the town after lockdown restrictions were eased.
The BID also hopes the video will help market St Ives as the ideal year-round staycation destination and encourage increased numbers of autumn and winter holidaymakers, who may be looking for UK-based breaks in 2020 with quarantine restrictions limiting overseas travel.

St Ives BID has been working closely with St Ives Town Council and Cornwall Council to manage a number of safety measures agreed in a COVID-secure action plan to make it as safe as possible for visitors, workers and residents after shops, restaurants and accommodations reopened.
These include road closures to restrict the harbour sea front and Fore Street to pedestrians only from 11am to 4pm to enable more room for people to socially distance. There are signs painted on the roads, colourful banners, posters and stickers reflecting St Ives’ artistic heritage dotted around the town which respectfully ask people to keep to the left and maintain social distancing, and sanitisers are strategically placed around the town centre.
Visitors are urged to plan ahead and ensure that their accommodation and meals are pre-booked wherever possible to avoid disappointment and to help businesses manage demand.
“We have put together our ‘Welcome back to St Ives’ town plan in close co-operation with the town council and Cornwall Council, following Government guidelines but adapting for our fishing town’s unique character and winding narrow streets.
“The measures we have put in place include road closures, which allow people to move more freely throughout the town, and marshals patrolling the towns and beaches, all with the aim of keeping people as safe as possible in these extraordinary times.
“The video is a great way for us to convey the measures in place to visitors, promote our town, and help people be reassured to visit.
“We have now come out of the initial opening stage and it is getting busier in the town so it is always best to check before you visit, and our key message for visitors and holidaymakers is to plan ahead.
“During lockdown, St Ives experienced a fantastic community spirit and town businesses and residents pulled together like never before.
“We are continuing to provide extra support and guidance to our local businesses as we move forward, so they can make the town as safe as possible, and provide a fantastic experience for both visitors and residents alike.”
