A holidaymaker has described his chance meeting with Doc Martin star Martin Clunes, who approached him and asked to stroke his dogs while he was on a trip to Cornwall.

Dan Thistlethwaite, who was on holiday with his wife and dogs from Cambridgeshire, said: "He came up to me, we were just passing and I didn't even notice him because we were squeezing round the corner and the dogs were keen and pulling to go on the beach.

"He sort of looked at me and said, is it ok to stroke your dogs because they look like two lovely dogs".

Dan told us the experience made his holiday as the celebrity encounter happened on his final day of his Cornish stay.

He continued: "We walked around the corner and as we walked around we bumped into Martin Clunes. He spotted my two dogs because he's a dog lover.

"It was our last day and it topped off a really nice warm week".

Martin Clunes, who played Doc Martin, set in Cornwall, has been photographed filming from people across Cornwall.

It has been reported it was for the 'last time' in Port Isaac after the series has been going on since 2004.

He has been pictured in the village as crews followed him around to capture the final series.

Dan told us he and his wife watched some of the filming on their final day together but she missed the opportunity to meet the actor after going to get them both an ice cream:

"She was stuck around there, it was so busy because we lost eachother for a few minutes. When she got back I showed her the photos and I think she was a little jealous that I met him and she didn't.

"He was really down to earth, quite happy in his busy schedule to give me a couple of minutes chat and explain it was his last day of filming and explain it was a little emotional between the crew".
