A protest is taking place in Hayle as locals have shared 'outrage' for sand being removed from a popular beach.

Footage from residents shows heavy machinery and lorries removing sand outside of designated dredging zones.

Officials say the removal is completely legal and nothing to be worried about.

Nick Reynolds is the Vice Chairman of Friends of the Towans: "The access to the beach is diminished. The beach is looking awful. You can see rocks coming up through the beach now, which shouldn't be there and the dune structure is falling away all the way up the coast of Gwithian."

Hayle Town Council say another meeting will be held between representatives of the Environment Agency, Natural England, Cornwall Council, Hayle Harbour Authority and the North Quay Developers on the legality and to consider this against any impact to the environment.
