Bodmin's historic market is set to return and bring a buzz to the town for the first time in 10 years.

On Saturday 30th July, Bodmin Town Council will be reintroducing the market in Mount Folly where it previously took place.

Bodmin Mayor, Phillip Cooper, said: "Bodmin was traditionally a market town and certainly when I was a child and growing up. The market was well established and run regularly and we feel and the people in Bodmin feel it would be a great benefit to them.

"It gives the town a closer connection to its heritage and its history and it allows us as Bodmin to use its central and historic location to attract visitors in to the town".

Officials are hoping that the reintroduction of the market will bring variety, value and enrichment to the high street, encouraging a more useable and enjoyable environment for both residents and visitors.

It will initially run on the last Saturday of every month hoping to continue to develop as the market goes on. Bodmin Town Council are asking for feedback to adapt and respond on how it is going.

Phil Cooper continued: "We've had a huge amount of research and evidence that says people want this.

"We do realise businesses, stalls, markets as well are still feeling the affects of Covid and are not fully staffed up and are not meeting the targets they'd like to meet so what we want to do is bring this back in to the heart of the town".

The days will see stalls and organisations together in the town centre and town councillors will be on hand on each market day to hear more about how they work and to have a chat or discuss any ideas or suggestions.
