Last updated 24th Nov 2022
Winds as strong as 70mph could hit Cornwall's coastline later. Heavy downpours are expected too, which could lead to localised flooding.
The Met Office has issued yellow weather warnings for wind and rain. It is in force between 9.00am - 7.00pm today (Thursday 24 November). It was initially due to start at 10.00am but has since been updated.
What to expect?
- Spray and flooding on roads probably making journey times longer
- Some delays to road, rail, air and ferry transport are likely
- Delays for high-sided vehicles on exposed routes and bridges likely
- Flooding of a few homes and businesses is possible
Dave, from the Kernow Weather Team, said: "Really take care when you're out, especially if you're on the A30 or any open roads, these winds could be quite strong and sudden. If you're in a high side vehicle they could blow you around.
"When these showers come in, they're going the be quite sharp and intense - they could catch people out. They could have hail mixed in as well.
"On top of all these strong winds, we've got spring tides as well. There's going to be really strong waves about. Really take care if you're by the coast or walking on the beach because it could come in rather quickly."
He adds that the bad weather is likely to stay for a few days: "The jet stream's quite low down, it's coming across Cornwall and it's quite powerful, so that's going to bring low weather systems after low weather systems for the next few days.
"So, it's going to be quite showery, quite chilly, quite windy but then there'll be little breaks in the showers where the sun will come out and it will feel warm, but the winds will make it feel cold as well."
