Penzance Gymnastics Club faces 'uncertain' future due to soaring costs
They're seeking support as their rent jumps by 100% over three years
A gymnastics club in Penzance faces uncertainty due to a hike in the cost to rent.
Penzance Gym Club say their rent will spike by 100% over the next three years, which they warn is unsustainable.
Penzance Gymnastics CIC, the community interest group behind the centre, tell us if they don't find another suitable venue, they could have to close.
Teona Jelbert, director, said: "The reality is the gym club would have to close. We definitely would not be able to offset those costs on to our members. Our members already pay a lot of money."
The centre, based at Longrock, has delivered vital services to the community over the past 50 years.
As well as gymnastics, it's known as a place to promote good health and wellbeing and they work with disadvantaged and distorted families to re-connect and play under supervision, provide facilities for PE lessons and run weekly adult classes recommended by local surgeries.
Teona added: "Any amount of that rent review on to our customers just wouldn't be fair on our community and we wouldn't be able to provide the services we do now. The real problem we would have is it would essentially shut.
"The rent increase has gone up this year by ÂŁ16,000, the next year it goes up again by another ÂŁ16,000 and then in the third year we will be up at ÂŁ75,000 in total, plus VAT."
A CrowdFunder has been set up to continue to raise funds to save Penzance Gymnastics Club from closure.
