After a two-year break because of the pandemic, the biggest event on Cornwall's agricultural calendar is back!
Organisers of the Royal Cornwall Show 2022 are promising an action-packed three days, with everything from rare breeds and the RAF Falcons in the main ring, to cream teas and a Royal visit!
They say around 110,000 people flocked to the site near Wadebridge for the last event in 2019 and they are hoping for a similar number of higher this time round.
In a statement, they said: "Whether you are a regular visitor, or someone attending for the first time, there is truly something for everyone.
"The show, once again, will be jam-packed with three days of top class competition, exciting displays, and the opportunity for some serious retail therapy amongst the hundreds of incredible trade stands".
Organisers added: "With a history that stretches back to the original Cornwall Agricultural Society in 1793, the show not only provides a place to meet friends and colleagues, to do business, and of course, compete, but also somewhere to enjoy time with friends and family, and simply have fun!
"At this time of change and uncertainty, it is more important than ever to demonstrate the heritage, community, and values of our county. Visitors often comment on the sheer 'Cornishness' of the event, which seems to thread its way through to every corner of the show".
What's on at the Royal Cornwall Show?
Royal Visit:
On day two of the show (Friday 10th June), there will be a Royal visit from Prince Charles and Camilla, who last came to the show in 2018.
Part of plans for Their Royal Highnesses will be a tour of various parts of the Show, meeting with exhibitors and competitors, as well as enjoying the Grand Parade of Livestock. His Royal Highness will also make the presentation to the 2021 and 2022 winners of his own award, The Duke of Cornwall’s Award for Farm Diversity.
This is a particularly special year for a Royal visit, following on from the Platinum Jubilee cerebrations and as His Royal Highness celebrates 70 years as The Duke of Cornwall - a position he has held since Her Majesty The Queen ascended to the throne in 1952.
Main Ring:
As well as the usual prize-winning animals, visitors can expect to be entertained by the RAF Falcons parachute display team, freelance motocross display team Bolddog FMX and, making its debut for 2022, the Shetland Pony Grand National! These will be appearing at various times across the three days and you can check the details on the Royal Cornwall Show's website.
At 5.30pm on Saturday 11th June, there will be the famous Cornish Mascot Challenge - a race between the various mascots from trade stands across the show, including Pirate FM's own 'Dreckly' the Parrot!
Animals:
Organisers say: "We pride ourselves on running one of the leading agricultural shows in the country. The numbers and quality of animals entered into the hundreds of classes at the Royal Cornwall Show improve year on year and people travel from further and further afield in the hope of coming away with an award.
"Small animals, too, abound. Dog and goat sections are popular and well supported, as are the rare breed classes. Rabbits, cage birds - even bees get noticed here!
All the animal displays and events are listed on the Royal Cornwall Show's website.
Food and Farming:
If all of the above-mentioned entertainment has wet your appetite, you will find a vast array of food and drink stands around the showground - from real ales and cider to Cornish cream teas and pasties.
Many of these can be found in the Cornwall Food and Farming Pavilion at the centre of the showground.
Organisers said: "We encourage all catering providers – from carvery units to burgers and chips (and everything in between) – to make use of local produce whenever they can. The result – tasty and appetising dishes.
"There's no shortage of catering options, wherever you are on the showground you are never far away from something to eat or drink.
"There is an excellent range of local beers and ciders on sale around the showground as well as fresh fruit stalls and in the Cornwall Food and Farming Pavilion you will find a wonderful range of locally-produced food and drink available to try and buy".
Pirate FM will be at the show on all three days. You can visit us at Stand 480 or check all the other trade stand locations on the Royal Cornwall Show's website.
