A fire at a Cornwall hotel has been extinguished by firefighters.

The blaze at The Pier House Hotel in Charlestown broke out last night (Friday 20 January).

All staff and guests were evacuated.

The fire service say one appliance remains on scene this morning (Saturday 21 January), assisting the brewery and monitoring hot spots.

Two officers are also currently in attendance, carrying out a preliminary investigation to establish the cause of the fire.

Cornwall Fire and Rescue Service say at 6:36pm Critical Control mobilised two appliances from St Austell and a Wholetime Officer to reports of the hotel fire.

Once in attendance, the crew requested the assistance of a further 6 fire appliances.

Appliances from Fowey, St Dennis, Bodmin, Wadebridge, St Columb, the Ariel Ladder Platform from Truro and the Incident Command Unit from Launceston were all mobilised.

Firefighters located the fire at the rear of the building.

Four Breathing Apparatus, one Hose Reel Jet and one Safety Jet have been in use.

On Facebook, Kevin Georgel, Chief Executive, St Austell Brewery said: “We can confirm that the fire at the Pier House, which broke out earlier this evening, has now been extinguished.

“We’d like to say a huge thank you to Cornwall Fire and Rescue Service for attending the scene so quickly and for bringing the fire under control. We will be surveying the damage in the days ahead and will be in touch with any customers who have made bookings with us.”
