Devon and Cornwall Police have issued an update after a G7 officer tested positive for coronavirus.

As part of the summit security operation all police officers must take part in the rigorous testing programme.

It was revealed on Friday that one officer had tested positive through a lateral flow test, and it has now been confirmed that they have also tested positive following a PCR test.

The force says the officer, and ten others who have been in close contact, are now isolating.

"As part of a rigorous testing programme for police officers supporting the G7 security operation, during the early hours of 11 June, Devon and Cornwall Police identified one officer who had a positive lateral flow test for Covid-19. That officer has since tested positive following a PCR test.

"The officer, plus ten other officers who have come into close contact, are isolating as per Government rules. Throughout the G7 operation, officers committed to the policing the event will be subject to a testing regime in order to minimise transmission of the virus.

"We wish the officer a quick recovery and thank them for their support to this operation."
