Official figures show the number of coronavirus cases in Cornwall increased by 307 in the last 24 hours and four more deaths were recorded.

A total of 43,653 people had been confirmed as testing positive for Covid-19 in Cornwall when the UK coronavirus daily dashboard was updated on Tuesday 28th September, up from 43,346 on Monday.

The latest weekly figures show the Duchy recorded 1,852 new cases in the seven days to last Thursday, giving us a case rate of 321.8 per 100,000 people - a slight rise on Tuesday's rate of 316.4.

From Friday October 1st, Cornwall will no longer be designated an 'Enhanced Response Area', following a substantial drop in cases after those summer spikes.

However, Cornwall Council's Public Health Team has warned people that Covid has not gone away and residents and visitors are being urged to remain vigilant.

There were also four more coronavirus deaths recorded in the latest 24-hour period in Cornwall.

The dashboard shows 533 people had died in the area by September 28 (Tuesday) – up from 529 on Monday.

It means there have been six deaths in the past week, which is a decrease on eight the previous week.

They were among 7,342 deaths recorded across the South West.

The figures include anyone who died within 28 days of a positive test result for Covid-19, and whose usual residence was in Cornwall.

Daily death counts are revised each day, with each case backdated to the actual date of death.

The figures also show that four in five people in Cornwall have received two doses of a Covid-19 vaccine.

The latest figures show 411,195 people had received both jabs by September 26 (Sunday) – 81% of those aged 16 and over, based on the number of people on the National Immunisation Management Service database.

Across England, 82% of people aged 16 and above had received a second dose of the jab.

Unlike at local level, the national rate was calculated using mid-2020 population estimates from the Office for National Statistics.
