A team of foster children and carers have trekked a combined total of 400 miles raising just over £400.

The money has gone to part of St Petroc's Society in Penzance to provide items including sleeping bags, blankets, warm clothing, and insulated mugs for the homeless.

The idea came from a group of children aged 7 - 15, who are in foster care with Truro based provider, Five Rivers Child Care.

As well as the 400 mile walk from St Agnes to Penzance and Prussia Cove to Lizard Point, one youngster held a bake sale, and another a non-uniform day at school.

“This event has been a heart-warming opportunity for children and young people in care to give back to their communities, especially during the holiday season. Their actions are a reminder for us all on the importance of coming together during difficult times to support those around us.

“The young people who came up with the idea have been overwhelmed by the donations, and they are keen to complete their 400-mile goal and raise more money for and awareness of local homelessness in the months to come. We are so proud of everyone involved.”

“I’m very proud of the girls and their motivation to make a difference. Their efforts at school have also shown how many like-minded young people share their concern regarding the plight of many and have actively supported them in this great cause.”
