The former mayor of Truro has raised £1,000s - in what he's describing as a journey of saving lives, gratitude and inspiration.

Steven Webb has reached the end of the Cornwall 500 Challenge, doing it in his electric wheelchair, laying special plaques along the way, with all the cash going towards the Cornwall Air Ambulance Trust.

These plaques all tell the unique story of the Duchy - in what's hoped will 'create a legacy' of his challenge, and also show to everyone the lasting impact of the Air Ambulance.

He says it's his way of giving back, after he was paralysed in a diving accident 33 years ago.

Chatting about his story and his challenge, Stephen said: "Thirty-three years ago, my life changed forever.

"Just six weeks after participating in a charity snooker marathon that raised £1,200 for the newly established air ambulance, I found myself fighting for my life in the back of that very same aircraft. On that fateful day, I broke my neck and became severely paralysed.

"Today, I rely on others for every aspect of my life. But that hasn't stopped me from living life to the fullest. Since that day, I've partied, loved, lost, and settled down to raise my daughter. I'm now a proud grandad. I've served as a City Councillor since 2017 and had the honor of being the Mayor of Truro from 2021 to 2023.

"The Cornwall 500 is my Way of Giving Back to the organisation which saved my life 33 years ago.

"I live in Cornwall, one of the most beautiful places in the world, with a coastline that many have walked in various ways. While I can't walk the coastline, I can do the next best thing: use the nearest navigable roads to the coastline, visiting towns and villages all over Cornwall. This journey will take nearly the whole of September.
