Flu is spreading across Cornwall, with early signs suggesting it could be a challenging season due to a new strain circulating.

Budehaven Community School is currently closed for a second day as the number of flu and strep-A cases rises in the area. Lessons are being carried out online while the situation is monitored.

On average, 11 patients per day were being treated for flu at Royal Cornwall Hospitals NHS Foundation Trust, in the week ending 7th December, a rise of three from the previous week.

Dr Ruth Goldstein, Assistant Director of Public Health for Cornwall and the Isles of Scilly, has urged people feeling unwell to consider steps they can take to minimise the spread and protect themselves and others.

Dr Goldstein said the advice is easy to follow and could make a real difference as flu continues to circulate.
