A warning is going out to drivers following a day of heavy rain and gales in Cornwall.

Kernow Weather Team has issued an advisory for flooded roads, following a stormy start to the weekend.

The winds brought down trees across the Duchy on Saturday, with strong gusts expected on Sunday morning.

However the Met Office has lifted the yellow weather warning for wind, that was due to be in force until 12pm.

Kernow Weather Team said: "We have still got some scattered showers, some quite heavy in a few places, there could be hail mixed in just to add to the fun".

KWT continued: "Please take care if out and about as there is poor visibility in some areas, there is a chance of some roads with standing water or the possibility of flooding".

What is the forecast?

The Met Office forecast for Sunday states: "A windy start with sunny and scattered showers. The wind will ease through the day, but at the same time the showers will become locally heavy and mixed with hail, with the odd rumble of thunder possible in the afternoon. Maximum temperature 12 °C".

Sunday night: "Scattered showers will tend to ease then die away inland on Sunday night with most places dry and clear by morning. However isolated showers may persist in coastal districts. Minimum temperature 1 °C".

Monday: "Sunny spells and isolated showers on Monday morning, with the showers most likely close to the coasts. The showers should fade away after midday leaving a fine and dry afternoon. Maximum temperature 12 °C".

Outlook for Tuesday to Thursday: "Dry with sunny spells on Tuesday. Unsettled and cloudy on Wednesday with outbreaks of rain only clearing late in the day. Dry with sunny spells on Thursday".
