Cornwall is on flood watch as the Environment Agency has issued flood alerts along the North Cornish coast.

Flood alerts have been issued across rivers and coastal areas from Lands End to Chapel Porth.

It comes as the Met Office has issued a yellow weather warning for rain between 8pm on Friday (29th January) and 3pm on Saturday (30th January).

What flood alerts are in force for Cornwall?

The flood alerts affect most of the north Cornish coast, including:

  • The Rumps to Hartland Point excluding Bude
  • Chapel Porth to The Rumps excluding the tidal River Camel
  • Tidal River Camel excluding Wadebridge and Chapel Amble
  • Lands End to Chapel Porth.

"Flooding is possible over the morning high tide on Friday 29th January. Time of high tide at Bude on Friday morning is 05:57. Times of high water will vary along the coast.

"Force 7 to 8, occasional Force 9 westerly winds will combine with a spring tide and offshore wave heights in excess of 4 metres. This may cause localised wave overtopping of defences and spray in exposed coastal areas.

"Peak water levels may be up to 400mm higher than published tides. Locations at risk include Polzeath, Port Isaac and Bude. People are advised to stay away from risk areas and take care next to the coast. "
