Flights from Manchester to Cornwall Airport Newquay resume
That is despite the city being placed into Tier 3 lockdown restrictions
Flights from Manchester have resumed into Cornwall Airport Newquay despite the city being placed into Tier 3 lockdown restrictions.
Tourism bosses and Cornwall Council say holidaymakers from high risk areas should be stopped from heading to the Duchy.
They are asking that people from Tier 3 areas do not visit Cornwall over half term, to help keep coronavirus infection rates low in the region.
However, the airport and the council also say there are no powers to actually stop anyone from visiting from a high risk area.
"The responsibility to follow government advice regarding travel restrictions is that of the individual whether that travel is by air, road or rail. There are no powers bestowed on any third parties in this respect.
"Safe travel through airports is strictly managed, including temperature screening of passengers before boarding flights.
"Cornwall Airport Newquay supports Cornwall Council in echoing government advice that anyone from a tier 3 high risk area should not be travelling to Cornwall unless their visit relates to one of the exceptions in the Government guidance."
