"We salute you": Police and Cornish army veteran pay tribute to Captain Sir Tom Moore
Cornwall Council has lowered its flags and paid tribute to him, saying:
"The flags outside County Hall have been lowered in honour of Captain Sir Tom Moore.
"We are deeply saddened to hear of his passing, and our hearts go out to his loved ones.
"His strength of spirit brought hope and inspiration to millions.
"A true hero and a gentleman."
It comes as the country is urged to come together and take part in a nationwide clap for Captain Tom at 6pm on Wednesday evening.
Speaking in the Commons, Boris Johnson encouraged people to get involved and join the "national clap": “We all now have the opportunity to show our appreciation for him and all that he stood for and believed in.
“That is why I encourage everyone to join in a national clap for Captain Tom and all those health workers for whom he raised money at 6pm this evening.”
His comments come after the House of Commons observed one minute's silence in memory of Captain Sir Tom Moore and everyone who has died as a result of the Covid-19 pandemic.
