Work is starting on realigning a new section of the A3075 Newquay to Chiverton Cross road as part of National Highways' A30 Chiverton to Carland Cross upgrade.

A half-mile stretch of the existing A3075 will be moved further north and, from Monday 12th September, this section will be closed for five weeks to enable the realignment work.

The complex operation will involve the removal of the existing A3075 section, including street lighting columns and other equipment and a full-depth reconstruction of the road at the east and west tie-in locations to allow for the new A30 alignment construction.

During the closure traffic will be diverted from the Chiverton roundabout, along the A30 and via the B3284 from the temporary Chybucca junction to rejoin the A3075.

The diversion will work in reverse for traffic travelling from Newquay, and the new A3075 will be open to traffic from Monday 17th October, allowing for work to continue on the alignment of the new A30 dual carriageway.

How the new section of the A3075 will look, from the Chiverton Cross junction

Neil Winter, National Highways' Senior Project Manager for the A30 scheme, said: "We appreciate the A3075 is a well-used road and we are keeping disruption to an absolute minimum.

"We understand roadworks can be frustrating, we've communicated the traffic switch well in advance to local communities, we’re ensuring access is maintained for residents and business, and we'll be keeping people fully informed as we progress the scheme through the autumn and winter.

"We thank people in advance for their co-operation and patience and in the meantime we advise drivers to plan ahead and allow a little extra time for their journeys during this work".

Once the new section of the A3075 is opened, a new junction onto the existing A30 will also provide access for staff and visitors to the Trevissome Park Business Centre, and access will be maintained once work steps up on the new A30 alignment in November.

The £330 million upgrade is scheduled to be open to traffic in winter 2023.

Further information on the scheme and forthcoming traffic management details is available on the National Highways website.
