Warning Covid is 'circulating widely in Cornwall' amid high case rate

A warning is going out about how coronavirus is circulating widely across Cornwall.
In the last week over 5,000 new Covid cases have been recorded in the Duchy. We currently have a case rate of 904 per 100,000 people.
Figures from the Royal Cornwall Hospitals Trust show there were 127 patients with the virus being treated in our hospitals as of Friday.
Cornwall Council's Public Health Team is urging residents and visitors 'not to pretend Covid disappeared', following the end of restrictions, free testing and the closure of testing sites.
People are being urged to help stop the spread by wearing face coverings, washing their hands and letting fresh air in.
Anyone with any symptoms of Covid-19 is being asked to stay at home.
Rachel Wigglesworth, Director of Public Health for Cornwall and the Isles of Scilly, said: "The Public Health team has been working hard throughout the pandemic to keep residents and visitors as safe as possible from Covid, and will continue to do so.
"But we can't do this if people pretend the virus doesn’t exist and forget about all the ways we can effectively stop transmission.
"So please remember the basics – 'hands, face and space', keep a face covering with you, stay at home if you're unwell, and get your vaccines.
"Only by acting responsibly can we hope to live safely with Covid".
Meanwhile eight more coronavirus related deaths were recorded in Cornwall on Friday.
The dashboard shows 810 people had died in the area by April 8th – up from 802 on Thursday.
The figures include anyone who died within 28 days of a positive test result for Covid-19, and whose usual residence was in Cornwall.
Daily death counts are revised each day, with each case backdated to the actual date of death.
A total of 147,539 deaths were recorded throughout England by April 8th (Friday) – up from 147,494 the day before.
