A fishing vessel sank off the coast of Lizard Point yesterday (Saturday, October 12) - and two people had to be rescued.
On social media, the Lizard Lifeboard reported the request to launch was called-in at 12:33PM after hearing distress calls from the "Crig A Tana" fishing boat.
At the time, it was 6 nautical miles away from Lizard Point when the EPIRB (Emergency Position Indicating Radio Beacon) alert had been identified by Falmouth Coastguard.
After the emergency signal, crews from the Lizard RNLI Lifeboat Station were deployed, as well as the HM Coastguard rescue helicopter and the Mullion Coastguard Rescue team.
At Lizard Point, Second Coxswain Darren Thirlaway deployed RNLB Rose to the site of the signal - where very soon a red flare was launched in the distance.
It was there a raft carrying to people was spotted by the lifeguards.
At the scene, there was no sign of the stricken "Crig A Tana" vessel, but the crew were safe, despite having been forced to abandon the vessel after it started to suddenly sink.
The two people who were rescued are also members of the lifeboat crew themselves.
The RNLI say both people were 'shaken but unharmed' and were welcomed back to shore by relieved family and friends.
On social media, one person - Charlotte-Rose Jenkins, said: "Today has been a complete blur so I'm sorry if I wasnt able to thank all of the crew who helped to bring the boys back home safely.
"They're shaken up but have had the most incredible support from family and friends, every message checking in has meant so much.
"Brett is snoring away next to me, as is Callum in the bedroom next door - the best outcome anyone could have hoped for. I'm feeling so very lucky tonight."
Despite the RNLI saying the mission was 'a difficult service' for the station, they were grateful for their safe return.
