A crab that looks just like a Cornish pasty has been found off the coast of Cornwall.

Fisherman Ian Jepson discovered the creature, covered in sponge, off Perranporth.

He tells us that whilst rare, it is not the first one he has spotted recently.

On one occasion, he found two in one of his crab pots!

Ian, who owns Three Jays Shellfish LTD, shared the photos on his social media feeds last week.

Since then, they have had hundreds of shares and even been picked up by the likes of Lad Bible!

On Instagram, Ian referred to the now famous crustacean as SpongeCrab Square Pants!

Ian said: "I'm not really surprised. We normally catch one every two to three years, although this year we've already had five and one day we has two in one pot!".

We asked Ian how he thinks the crab gets its sponge shell, to which he replied: "I'm not really sure if they carve it out on the seabed or if it grows over the crab".

Speaking about becoming a bit of an internet sensation, Ian said: "I'm just glad so many people enjoyed it".
