June 2nd 2022 marked the start of Platinum Jubilee celebrations across the Commonwealth and Cornwall and many of the most memorable moments so far have been caught on camera.

Hundreds of people gathered together on Thursday, for the first parades and street parties to mark the Queen's 70 years on the throne.

That included the lighting of more than 60 beacons in the Duchy, from Launceston to Chapel Carn Brea and Morwenstow to St Michael's Mount at Marazion.

Truro's Platinum Jubilee Parade

The ceremony started with a streaming of the Trooping of Colour at Lemon Quay from 10am, where crowds began to gather ahead of the parade later in the day.

Marchers then moved to St George's Street where a parade through the town started at 1pm.

Those marching in the parade waved Union Jack and Cornish flags, with many wearing red, white and blue.

Lilly, 11, from the Guides, told us: "We just walked around Truro celebrating the Queen's Platinum Jubilee. It's very special because you don't normally get the chance to be a part of the parade, it's fun".

Eight-year-old Nancy, from the Brownies, said: "We walked around Truro it was really fun".

The event ended with a service at Truro Cathedral, including songs like Jerusalem, Trelawney and the National Anthem.

And, as ever, there was a bit of a Cornish spin at the end, with chants of 'Oggy Oggy Oggy'.

Karen Easton, President of Federation of old Cornwall societies, told us: "I was very proud. I think she's done a wonderful job and I'm really pleased to add to Cornwall's way of celebrating what she's achieved.

"I thought there was a good balance there, it was very well done. It was a lovely happy occasion and lots of good feeling, good spirit around".

Cornwall's Jubilee Beacon Lightings

In Cornwall, dozens of beacon lightings took place at 9.45pm on Thursday night, to officially end the first day of Platinum Jubilee celebrations.

The Beacon owned by Cornwall Heritage Trust at Castle An Dinas was one of many across the Duchy lighting their beacon to celebrate the Queen.

Refreshments were served from 8.30pm ahead of the start of the event with Cornish pasties and drinks for people to take up the beacon.

Our reporter Megan Price went down for the start...

A Bugle call took place at 9.40pm, marking the beginning of the lighting which was to be done by a volunteer who has done a lot for the heritage in Cornwall after being nominated by local people.

The service then saw a Song for Commonwealth being sung before the official lighting of the beacon at 9.45pm.

Hundreds of other Beacons across the country and Commonwealth were lit at the same time, finalising the first day of four days of Platinum Jubilee celebrations.

On day two, people continued to share their footage of visits to Jubilee-themed events across the Duchy.

From the Farmers' Market in Bude...

To 'royal' boats cruising on the Camel Estuary...

Bunting and flags are flying at Cornwall's hospices...

And Torpoint has been keeping the crowds entertained...

The Jubilee has even reignited the cream tea debate! (As if there is any other way than jam first!)

There are plenty more events still to come in Cornwall this weekend and you can check ones happening near you on the officials Platinum Jubilee website.
