Firefighters rescue a kitten stuck down a drain near Camelford

It took two crews to bring the stricken moggy back to safety

Fire crews from north Cornwall were called to the B3262 at Hallworthy in north Cornwall just before midday on Tuesday September 15 after a kitten was seen stuck down a drain.

The shout came after two members of the public had spotted the ginger tabby in the drain on the side of the busy main road and contacted Cornwall Fire and Rescue Service.

One crew managed the traffic while the other used a hose inflation kit to retrieve the kitten from the drain pipe.

The kitten was then taken by those who discovered it to a local vets to be checked over.

"At 1145 today Critical Control received a call regarding a kitten trapped in a drain on a busy road.

"The callers stopped to make sure the kitten was safe until Fire Crews arrived. Two appliances were mobilised from Delabole to this incident.

"One crew carried out the rescue of the kitten and one crew carried out traffic management to keep the crew safe while they performed the rescue.

"The crew used their hose inflation kit to retrieve the kitten from the drain. The kitten was then taken by the members of the public who discovered it to a local vets to be checked over."
