Hopes a pub could be rebuilt after tragic Christmas Eve fire on Bodmin Moor
A fire investigation is being carried out into the blaze at the historic Cheesewring Hotel
There are hopes that a Bodmin Moor pub could be rebuilt after it was gutted by flames but fire bosses say that could take some time.
The Cheesewring Hotel, based in Minions, dates back to 1863 and is the highest pub in Cornwall.
But tragedy struck on Christmas Eve when it was destroyed by fire, as it was meant to be dishing out festive meals.
Firefighters from six towns across the Duchy were called to the scene just after 8am and say they were met with a 'ferocious' fire.
Luckily no one was injured but the building has been destroyed from floor to ceiling, with parts having collapsed inside.
Photos from the scene show the skeleton of the roof that is left on the hotel.
Cornwall Fire and Rescue Service has confirmed that it is carrying out a fire investigation to try and work out was caused the blaze.
Mark Hewitt, from Cornwall Fire & Rescue Service, was the incident commander at the scene.
He told us: "On arrival the troops were faced with a fairly ferocious fire, a lot of smoke issuing, they did manage to get inside to fight the fire but the internal structures were already compromised, so they can to come out and fight it externally.
"The weather has helped up a bit with the rain suppressing the fire but the high winds have very much been against us.
"The local village has all rallied around, helping out with welfare and offers of support.
"Thankfully no one has been hurt in the building, everyone is accounted for which is the most important bit.
"The building is gutted from floor to ceiling, so it is completely destroyed. Luckily the buildings that surround it have been kept safe from any transfer of fire.
"It's devastating for the owners and for the village to lose their pub this close to Christmas and there will be a fire investigation in due course."
