'Bad parking' leaves fire engine with broken wingmirror when responding to blaze in Newquay
There were fears people could have been trapped inside the property
A fire engine has suffered a broken wingmirror while responding to a house fire down a narrow street in Newquay.
It was feared that people could be trapped inside the property on Friday morning.
The crew says due to the nature of the call and the parked cars they had to 'sacrifice' the wingmirror in order to get through.
A local builder had used his ladder to gain access through a window to the house and wake up the person inside so they could get to safety.
Newquay Community Fire Station is urging people to park sensibly and to make sure a fire engine can always get through.
"Just attended a ‘persons reported’ house fire due to the nature of the call and narrow street with parked vehicles the driver sacrificed his wing mirror!
"Thankfully on this occasion a local builder used his ladder to gain access through a window and wake the occupant.
"Really big shout out to ‘Quiche’ for his selfless act and quick thinking.
"Please remember to park sensibly and consider, ‘could a fire appliance get through?’"
