Over 100 people gather and vandalise sand dunes in Cornwall

Fire crews from Newquay say they have been called out on both Monday and Tuesday night this week

People in Cornwall are being urged to 'respect the dunes' after 100 youths were found setting fires and littering on protected sand dunes in Newquay.

Crews from Newquay Community Fire Station said it was called to Fistral dunes two nights in a row - both Monday and Tuesday nights this week (29th & 30th March).

Multiple groups were found to be burning rubbish, littering and set a skip on fire due to 'inappropriate discarding of disposable barbecues.

The fire services says many locals are working hard to look after them and is asking people to stop lighting fires and dumping rubbish.

"We’ve been called out 2 nights in a row to Fires in Fistral dunes, and a skip on fire due to inappropriate discarding of disposable BBQ’s!

"Over 100 youths in the dunes setting fires and littering, these are protected dunes and many locals are working hard to look after them, please respect the dunes and stop lighting fires and dumping your rubbish."
