Fire crews tackle large barn fire in Lockengate
Teams found it "well alight" on arrival
Fire crews are tackling a large barn fire in a Cornish hamlet.
Teams were called the Lockengate this morning (Thursday 13 July), where they found the barn to be "well alight".
Cornwall Fire and Rescue are advising residents to keep doors and windows closed due to smoke: "Due to weather conditions the plume is lying low to the ground and not dispersing."
The service are urging people to avoid the area due to "difficult access": "At 04:14 Fire Control received the first of multiple 999 calls reporting a fire in a barn near to Lockengate, Bugle. Two appliances from Bodmin Fire Station were mobilised along with a Wholetime Station Manager.
"On arrival crews found a barn to be well alight and crews requested 'Make Pumps 4' and a Water Carrier.
"Further resources have now been mobilised and a further make up message has been received to 'Make Pumps 5'. All specialist appliances associated with the make up message have also been mobilised."
In an update at 6.42am, the fire service said crews were making good progress: "Five pumping appliances now in attendance from Bodmin, St Austell and Wadebridge along with the following special appliances: Operational Support Unit from Falmouth, Incident Command Unit from Launceston, Environmental protection Unit and support pump from Saltash and Welfare Unit from St Mawes."
