Police confirm fatality following "serious incident" on A30 near Redruth

Police have confirmed a young man has died following a "serious incident" on the A30 in west Cornwall.

Officers were called to the stretch between the junctions for Redruth and Tolvaddon first thing on Wednesday morning.

They had received reports of concern for a person's welfare, who was found in the road near Illogan.

Tragically, a casualty in his 30s was pronounced dead at the scene.

The road has now been reopened in both directions.

Devon and Cornwall Police said: "Police were called at around 5.20am on Wednesday 1st September after concern was raised for the welfare of a man found on the A30 near Illogan, Redruth.

"Emergency services attended and a local man, aged in his 30s, was pronounced deceased at the scene. His next-of-kin have been informed.

"The death is not being treated as suspicious.

"The A30 was initially closed in both directions between Avers and Tolvaddon.

"This has caused significant traffic disruption in the area.

"The eastbound carriageway was reopened at around 12.15pm.

"The westbound carriageway and the Broad Lane overbridge remain closed".
