Police confirm fatal Redruth house fire is not believed to be suspicious

Emergency services have been investigating the cause of the blaze

Police have confirmed that a fatal house fire in Redruth that claimed a man's life is not believed to be suspicious at this time.

Emergency services were called to Green Lane on Tuesday morning (3rd May) following a report of a fire in a three-storey detached house.

Crews used jets to tackle the blaze and two people were taken to hospital.

Sadly a man in his 70s later died. Another man in his 80s suffered smoke inhalation but it is not believed to be serious.

Officers remained on the scene for most of the day and say the scene has now closed.

An investigation is being carried out into the cause of the fire and we are waiting for more details from Cornwall Fire and Rescue Service.

At the time, crews said: "The first of two fire appliances from Tolvaddon was in attendance within seven minutes, following a report of a fire in a three-storey detached house. One fire appliance from Truro and one fire appliance from Penzance also attended.

"Firefighters wearing breathing apparatus, used three hosereels, three safety jets and thermal imaging cameras to extinguish the fire, located on the first floor. Two people were rescued by firefighters and were left in care of ambulance crews; there is no details available on their condition.

"The fire was extinguished by 0925hrs and specialist officers are conducting an investigation into the cause of the fire."
