Police have confirmed a man has died after a serious crash just across the Cornwall border.

Officers say they received reports of a car having collided with an electrical substation.

The incident happened in the early hours of Friday morning, closing the A390 between Gulworthy and Tavistock.

A stretch of Callington Road remains closed as serious collision investigators carry out enquiries.

Devon & Cornwall Police are appealing for anyone who witnesses the crash or anyone with dashcam footage to come forward.

In a statement the force said: "Police were called at 3am today to Callington Road, Tavistock, following reports of a car in collision with an electrical substation.

"Emergency services attended the scene where a man was confirmed deceased at the scene. Enquiries are ongoing to locate and inform his next of kin.

"The road remains closed at this time whilst enquiries are ongoing.

"Anyone who witnessed the incident or may have dash cam footage in the area is asked to make contact.

"Anyone with information which may assist the investigation is asked to contact police on 101 quoting log 91 8/10/21".

Inrix Traffic and Travel said the road was closed in both directions but has since reopened: "Slow traffic due to earlier accident.

"A car involved on A390 in both directions between B3362 (Gulworthy) and A386 Plymouth Road (Armada roundabout, Tavistock). All lanes have been re-opened.

"Road reopened around 10:10 following the accident and road closure that was implemented around 05:20 this morning".
