A family have managed to escape from a house fire in Bude with no serious injuries thanks to their smoke alarms.

The blaze broke out on Friday afternoon (14th January) and crews from Bude, Launceston and Holsworthy were called to the scene.

Hose reel jets were used to put the blaze out.

Firefighters are reminding people of the importance of having working smoke and carbon monoxide alarms along with a clear evacuation route.

Posting on Facebook, Bude Community Fire Station said: "Crews from Bude, Launceston and Holsworthy Fire Station attended a property fire this afternoon.

"The occupants had two working smoke alarms and a carbon monoxide alarm which all activated and helped alert them, and the whole family were able to escape safely.

"The importance of working smoke alarms and having a clear evacuation escape route if the worst were to happen cannot be emphasised enough. Thankfully there were no serious injuries."

Cornwall Fire and Rescue Service says crews were called to the Marhamchurch area at around 5pm on Friday.

They said at the time: "Currently four pumping appliances are on scene at a residential property fire.

"Good progress is being made by firefighters wearing breathing apparatus using hose reel jets."
