Fake £20 notes circulating in the Hayle area, police warn

Officers are urging shops, businesses and anyone handling cash to be on their guard

Police have issued a warning about new fake £20 notes, in circulation in west Cornwall.

Officers say they have received reports of the notes turning up in and around Hayle.

Shops, businesses and anyone handling cash are being urged to be on their guard and check all money.

Posting on Facebook, Penzance Police said that on close inspection, they seem quite obvious.

Locals and residents are being advised to keep genuine notes on hand to compare.

Penzance Police said: "Warning to all shops and businesses around Hayle and anyone handling cash.

"Hayle Police have recently been notified of new fake £20 notes in circulation which are turning up around town.

"Please check when receiving £20 notes that they are genuine ones.

"These seem quite obvious on close inspection.

"If in doubt keep one you have confirmed as real, close to hand for comparison".
