Train line closed between Penzance and Plymouth due to emergency services incident

The railway line between Plymouth and Penzance has been closed as emergency services deal with an incident.

National Rail is reporting that a person has been hit by a train.

Services may be cancelled or delayed by up to an hour until around 9pm tonight (21st March).

CrossCountry services between Newcastle and Penzance and Great Western Railway services between Cardiff Central/London Paddington and Penzance are all affected.

Train tickets are being accepted on bus routes instead.

National Rail says: "A person has been hit by a train between Plymouth and Penzance. As all lines are currently closed, trains may be cancelled or delayed by up to 60 minutes until approximately 21:00.

"If you’ve been affected by what happened on the network today, there is always someone to talk to. You can contact the Samaritans on 116 123 from any phone for a confidential chat."

Inrix Traffic and Travel says: "Services at a stand on Great Western Railway between Plymouth and Penzance due to emergency services dealing with an incident."

We have contacted British Transport Police for more information and are waiting to hear back.
