Elderly man dies following crash near Redruth

Police investigating a collision near Redruth have confirmed an elderly man has died.

The 82-year-old was rushed to hospital on Sunday afternoon but later passed away.

Officers say a car collided with a lamp post on Quilkin Avenue at around 1pm and his family have been told.

Paramedics and Cornwall Fire and Rescue Service were also called to the scene.

Devon and Cornwall Police are appealing for witnesses and anyone with dashcam footage to come forward.

The force said: "An 82-year-old man has died following a collision near Redruth which happened on Sunday 27 February

"Police were called after a car collided with a lamp post on Quilkin Avenue in Pool at around 1pm.

"As a result, the driver sustained serious injuries and was taken to hospital where he later died. His next of kin are aware.

"Traffic officers, ambulance and the fire service all attended the scene and enquiries are ongoing into the circumstances that led to the collision.
