National Highways is advising drivers to plan their journeys ahead of a weekend closure of the A30 in Cornwall.

The road will be shut between Chiverton and Boxheater, from 8.00pm tonight (Friday, 22 March) to 6.00am, on Monday, 25 March.

It's so drainage, central reservation installation, fencing and bridge work can take place as part of the company's A30 Chiverton to Carland Cross road upgrade scheme.

During the weekend closure, eastbound traffic will be diverted via the A3075 to Goonhavern and the B3285 to rejoin the A30, with the westbound diversion operating in reverse.

On Monday, drivers will also experience a new layout at the Carland Cross roundabout, to allow for work to progress at the eastern end of the scheme.

Under the temporary Carland traffic alignment, as per the diagram below, traffic will navigate the new north roundabout, to continue their A30 journeys or to follow the A39 Truro road.

Neil Winter, National Highways’ Senior Project Manager for the A30 scheme, said: "We’re continuing to progress the scheme, and the weekend closure will enable us to move further forward with essential drainage and structural work.

"Drivers will also see a new layout at Carland Cross, it’s not a significant change, but we thank people in advance for their co-operation and patience, and advise people to plan ahead and allow a little extra time for their journeys."

The new A30 dual carriageway is scheduled to be fully opened for traffic in June.

In the meantime, the A30 project team will be hosting two public engagement events in Truro next week.

The team will be at Lemon Quay on Tuesday, 26 March (1.00pm-7.00pm) and Wednesday, 27 March (8.00am-2.00pm) to talk about the project and answer any questions.
